Mumbai (Part 2) | India Weekend Series | 2019

the next 8 hours after arrived in Mumbai, i took my first Indian breakfast before i started the day to roam around Mumbai. I decided to take Masala Dosa. it’s one of the most delicious dosa i’ve ever taste. the bread was in perfect form of crispiness and the food presentation was so pretty :9

since i didn’t have much time in Mumbai and I did not want to miss exploring this city, I booked 6 Hours Mumbai Highlight tour from Klook. the price was OK.. considering that i didn’t know any other option :p the driver and a guide were pick me up in my hotel at 8:00 am with sedan car. a day before, the guide contacted me through whatsapp to inform meeting point and time. well, this was my first tour booked from Klook. i didn’t have much expectation rather than sightseeing the city. also, i never imagine what Mumbai will look like. i mean, probably it’s like the city that Indian movie showed to me. but wait.. it’s quite different than in movie :p

Mumbai Sea Bridge (Bandra-Worli Sea Link)
i was in awe when we drove by this bridge. i was really enjoying the skyline view along the way. it’s not India city view that I know from movie. maybe because i didn’t see much Indian movie. but the things i want to say is.. it’s such a beautiful city view. well, at least i had such a good first impression of Mumbai city.

Dhobi Ghat
this was the first stop of the tour, me and the guide got off from the car, and walked to the view point of Dhobi Ghat. Dhobi Ghat is open air laundromat. from the view point which in higher level than the laundromat area, we could see how busy the dhobis with their works and how contrast it was with its surrounding. as informed from the guide, they’re washing clothes and linens of hotel and hospital in Mumbai. we could see it from clothes in some clothesline, it’s in similar colour or it’s like uniform. other than that, the clothes were also pick up from laundries. the guide also said that the clothesline which made from rope was designed in such way so the clothes will not fall off yet still easy for dhobis to put in or take out the clothes. to saw them works was such an experience. i motivated by how they’re so into their work and really knowing what they’re doing. i know, it’s a must and obvious. but you know.. it’s kind of moment for me to reflect :)

Banganga Tank
to the next stop we visited Banganga Tank. it’s a pool. i was not quite sure what kind of pool is this, but as much as i observed, there were people who put offerings on the water, some people were gathered on the side of the pool, and some people were swimming. and as much as i could see also, there were some temples surround this area. i was sure my guide told me about this place, and i forgot -_-‘

Hanging Gardens (Ferozeshah Merla) and Kamala Nehru Park
in the middle of the way, we stopped at a garden which later that i know, it called Hanging Gardens. this garden laid on top of Mumbai’s reservoir. maybe because i visited this garden almost noon, the garden was look not that busy. from this garden, we walked to the view point of South Mumbai. and again.. i was amazed by the panoramic view from there :) once done enjoying the view, we passed by Kamala Nehru Park to exit the area to the main road.

Malabar Hill Viewing Gallery
we walked to this gallery just to get another viewpoint of South Mumbai. this gallery located next to Kamala Nehru Park. and it was such an elegant-classic buildings. there was a beautiful stairs which lead us upstairs to get a better view of South Mumbai. and u know what, while leaving this buildings, i saw monkey! well.. as Indonesian and as i looked the area that many big trees planted, it was a normal scene. but my guide and the security guards there were so amazed because it’s Mumbai, the city, we’re talking about. ok..

Gateway of India
i could say that Gateway of India is the most touristic and the most iconic place in Mumbai. i could see it from the amount of people who was there the time i visited the place. like you did not visit Mumbai yet until you visit this place. the gateway was built to commemorate the first visit of British monarch to India. the gateway was also remained among the first structure visible to visitors arriving in Mumbai by the sea.

the first time i saw the buildings, i felt like i was in one of the castle area in historical era :D one of landmark in this area called Rajabai Clock Tower. “Local businessman Premchand Roychand contributed to the cost of construction and named the tower in memory of his mother, Rajabai.” :’)

Haji Ali Dargah
honestly, i do really want to visit this place because its unique location on which it built on a tiny islet located 500 meters from the coast, in the middle of Worli Bay. yet unfortunately, we’re in rush and the bridge to the building was closed that time. The Haji Ali Dargah is a mosque and dargah (tomb) of Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. This mosque is example of Indo-Islamic architecture. next time i come back to Mumbai, I must visit this mosque!
